Certain to leave a mark on you. Wine is the connecting theme of all our routes.
Delve into the heart of our wines by knowing the history of our municipalities.
We tell you our stories and those of our wines.
London is full of all kinds of wine bars – British, European and Spanish alike and some of our favourites are linked by the fact they all serve Rioja wine! We’ve selected five of our top picks, so you’re never short of inspiration if you fancy a glass of Rioja in the UK’s capital.
Gordon’s Wine Bar
Gordon’s is London’s oldest wine bar, dating from 1860 and continues to be run by the same family. The wine list is extensive and the décor unmissable: with a cellar-like underground bar and candle-lit tables, it’s like stepping back in time. Head here in winter and choose a Rioja Reserva for warmth on a chilly evening, or visit in summer when customers spill out into Embankment Gardens, and sip a refreshing white Rioja as you look out over the River Thames.
Sager & Wilde
A gorgeously decorated wine bar and restaurant, Sager and Wilde serves up a whole host of interesting wines, including a selection of Riojas. Food is also a forte, with heavenly dishes and small plates, including top quality cheese and meats which complement the wines perfectly – we recommend matching a fruity red Rioja with its charcuterie!
Known by Londoners as the place to come for fine food and wine, Noble Rot has an excellent selection of Rioja on its wine list. Situated on pretty Lamb’s Conduit Street in the heart of Bloomsbury, it’s the place to come for an atmospheric treat.
A trendy wine bar with locations all over London, Vagabond offers an interactive wine experience, with the option to sample wines before you commit to a glass. With staff on hand to advise, it’s a great place to try their range of Rioja wine.
This lesser-known gem is a Spanish tapas and wine bar in Soho, recreating the relaxed, informal atmosphere of Spanish eateries. With a huge offering of both red and white Riojas, you can match its top-quality tapas to a range of different wines – we recommend the sweet potato bravas, alioli and peanuts with a rich and elegant white Rioja, made with the Viura grape.
