Circular 7/2009. Decisions of the Plenary session of 6-2-2009 and 3-4-2009 regarding the promotion of varieties and white wines

Considering that the promotion of Rioja white wines is a strategic opportunity which the Denominación de Origen Calificada Rioja cannot miss and that, on this basis, the incorporation of new white varieties was approved unanimously in order to improve the current varieties available to us, the Control Board Plenary of the DOCa Rioja, met in extraordinary session on 6 February 2009, and adopted, among others, the following decisions:

  1. To guarantee a system to control the back labels for the sale of wines made with white varieties, proposing a numbering system similar to that of magnum bottles, as the Technical and of Inspection Service considers it suitable.

Likewise, in a session held on 3 April 2009, the DOCa Rioja Control Board Plenary decided on a date of coming into force of the above obligation:

  • “It is decided that it should be compulsory for wineries to include in their labelling movements the series and numbers of back labels or seals used for white wines starting from 1 January 2011.”

This is hereby notified for general knowledge and such effects as may obtain.
