Bodega Eduardo Garrido

Eduardo Garrido, the proprietor and winemaker, has maintained the deep traditions and abiding sprit of the family wine cellar of the Rioja, preserving and carrying on the unique teachings of his father, Vicente, who founded the winery in 1923.And now,I, Amelia Garrido, alongside my father Eduardo, will carry on the third generation of our traditional family winemaking.

The Eduardo Garrido Wine Cellar is located in Abalos, (La Rioja), Spain, at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria Mountains in the heart of Rioja Alta. For over 500 years, Abalos and its surroundings have been home to the best quality vineyards and wines in Spain.  Eduardo Garrido, the proprietor and winemaker, has maintained the deep traditions and abiding sprit of the family wine cellar of the Rioja, preserving and carrying on the unique teachings of his father, Vicente, who founded the winery in 1923.

In addition to our fine wines, the Eduardo Garrido Wine Cellar is complimented by its own small wine museum featuring tools and memorabilia of Rioja winemaking and viticulture, all collected personally by Eduardo Garrido and embodying his passion for the tradition of Rioja winemaking.

Our production is small:  around 20.000 liters of wine per year from 2 hectares of local vineyards of unique characteristics; one with aged vines for our Reserva and Gran Reserva wines, and the other with younger vines for the Joven and Crianza wines.

We age our fine wines in approximately 100 barrels of French and American oak.  Our production includes:

“Joven” or young wines. These are our most recent vintages, which have not been aged and are intended for immediate enjoyment.

“Crianza” wines have been aged for 2 years with at least 6 months in American and French oak casks.

“Reserva” wines have been aged for at least 3 years with at least 1 year in American and French oak casks. Reserva wines are generally limited to those vintages considered “Excellent.”

“Gran Reserva” wines have benefited from at least 5 years of aging, 18 months of which is in American and French oak casks and a minimum of 36 months bottled in our cellar. Gran Reserva wines are generally limited to our most outstanding vintages.
